The 2018 edition of the International Champions Cup will start today, with the opening fixture between Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund. This is a tournament in which club teams from Europe play friendlies against each other to warm up before the start of the season in August.
This is the sixth edition and will feature 18 teams from UEFA: Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Lyon, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Juventus, Roma, Benfica, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Barcelona. Originally, 22 venues were announced but were later increased to 23. Of these, 15 are in the USA, 7 in Europe and 1 in Singapore. Matches will be played from 20 July to 11 August. FC Barcelona are the defending champions, having won it last year by defeating Manchester City in the final.
The tournament is played in a table format, with the team finishing top being crowned champion. Each team will play 3 matches, except Benfica who will play only 2.
