Winners of the Spanish Supercup 2018, Barcelona, posing with the trophy.
The Spanish Supercup, or Supercopa de España, is held every year in Spain and is contested between the winners of La Liga and Copa del Rey. In the case that a team wins both these tournaments, then the match is played with runners-up of the Copa del Rey. This year's edition was played between Barcelona, winners of La Liga, and Sevilla, runners-up of Copa del Rey. The match was held with one leg and in neutral territory for the first time, and Barcelona proved to be the best in Spain by beating Sevilla 2-1.
Sevilla opened first as Pablo Sarabia scored an amazing goal at 9'. Barça did not catch up until Gerard Piqué netted the ball when Messi's free kick hit the post at 42'. Ousmane Dembélé then added another at 78' from a brilliant strike from long range, and thus winning Barcelona their 13ᵗʰ Sanish Supercup title.
